Maintenance Technician – 1st Shift

Position Summary

\n

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production equipment, machinery, and facility systems to ensure optimal performance, safety, and reliability.

\n

This role supports continuous manufacturing operations by conducting routine inspections, troubleshooting equipment issues, and completing repairs in a timely and efficient manner. The Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in minimizing equipment downtime, extending equipment life, and maintaining a safe, clean, and productive work environment while supporting Schmid Tool & Engineering's operational and safety standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

\n

    \n
  • Troubleshoot, install, repair, and maintain manufacturing equipment and facility systems with minimal supervision.
  • \n

  • Perform maintenance in accordance with machine manuals, blueprints, electrical schematics, and applicable building codes.
  • \n

  • Repair and maintain:

  • Production machinery

  • CNC equipment
  • \n

  • Electrical wiring and systems
  • \n

  • Pneumatic systems
  • \n

  • PLC-controlled equipment

  • Motors and engines
  • \n

  • Plumbing systems
  • \n

  • Building structures and facility infrastructure
  • \n

  • Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance on manufacturing equipment and facility systems.
  • \n

  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and PLC-related issues to minimize equipment downtime.
  • \n

  • Assist senior maintenance technicians with complex repairs, installations, and equipment improvement projects.
  • \n

  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and unexpected equipment failures.
  • \n

  • Fabricate simple machine parts, guards, brackets, and maintenance-related components as needed.
  • \n

  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and repair documentation.
  • \n

  • Support facility and grounds maintenance activities as required.
  • \n

  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe maintenance work areas.
  • \n

  • Occasionally use a personal vehicle to pick up maintenance parts or supplies when necessary.
  • \n

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • \n

  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • \n

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support business and operational objectives.

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

  • Working knowledge of:

  • Electric motors

  • Single-phase and three-phase electrical systems

  • General industrial maintenance

  • Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience maintaining CNC machinery in a manufacturing environment.
  • \n

  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting.
  • \n

  • Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • \n

  • Welding or fabrication experience is a plus.
  • \n
