Position Overview
Precise Software Solutions is seeking a skilled STARLIMS Developer and Configuration Specialist to support a federal contract. This role will be responsible for executing all technical configuration, development, upgrade, and integration activities associated with the STARLIMS sample management platform. The developer will lead the upgrade of STARLIMS v12.0 QM to the current version, implement approximately 22 system improvements identified in the program's Improvement Tracker, integrate STARLIMS with the SciNote electronic lab notebook (ELN), and build five or more custom reports exportable to PDF and Excel. All work must be validated to ensure compatibility with existing customizations and compliance with FDA information security requirements.
Location: Remote with travel to St. Louis, MO
Clearance Requirement: Ability to obtain FDA Public Trust background investigation (Sensitive Moderate Risk, Tier 2); U.S. citizenship or qualifying residency required
Key Responsibilities
- The STARLIMS Developer will execute a full platform upgrade from STARLIMS v12.0 QM to the current version, including validation of all existing customizations, scripts, and business logic to confirm compatibility with the upgraded version.
- The developer will implement all functional improvements identified, spanning user interface enhancements, data entry process refinements, search and retrieval improvements, inventory management updates, reporting enhancements, and security and access control changes. Specific implementation tasks include reconfiguring inventory management grid columns and enabling Excel export functionality, adding designation columns and custodian identification features, revising the sample ID numbering scheme, implementing chain of custody improvements including new custodian tracking columns, and enhancing disposal workflow transactions.
- The developer will design, build, and validate a minimum of five custom reports exportable to PDF and Excel formats, including an inventory listing report, custodian checkout tracking report, disposal report for hazardous waste contractors, and additional reports as defined in the program's Improvement Tracker.
- The developer will configure the QBE Query Manager to align queries and tables with the implementation.
- The developer will lead the technical integration between STARLIMS and SciNote, designing and implementing a reliable, secure data exchange consistent with FDA information security requirements. All development and configuration changes must be documented within the contractor's quality assurance system and made available to the government upon request.
- The developer will support user acceptance testing by addressing and resolving defects identified during the 90-day testing and acceptance period, and will provide technical input to system training sessions and report-building training for designated users.
Requirements:
- Candidates must have a minimum of four years of hands-on STARLIMS configuration, scripting, and development experience, with demonstrated experience performing or supporting STARLIMS version upgrades.
- Proficiency in STARLIMS scripting languages, report configuration (including QBE Manager), and workflow transaction development is required.
- Experience configuring STARLIMS inventory management, chain of custody, and sample lifecycle modules is required.
- Candidates must have experience building and validating custom reports exportable to PDF and Excel within STARLIMS.
- Candidates must hold or be able to obtain an FDA Public Trust background investigation at the Sensitive Moderate Risk (Tier 2) level.
Preferred Qualifications
STARLIMS developer certification or formal STARLIMS training from Abbott Informatics is strongly preferred. Experience integrating STARLIMS with external systems, including electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) such as SciNote, is highly desirable. Familiarity with ISO 17025 laboratory accreditation requirements and FDA CDER or OPQR laboratory environments is a plus. Experience with FIPS 140-compliant encryption standards, Section 508 accessibility requirements, and FISMA-compliant development practices is preferred. Experience with laboratory instrument networking or instrument data integration is a plus.
