Job Description
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the Project Manager in the planning, execution, financial management and successful delivery of commercial construction projects. The APM serves as a key member of the project team, helping coordinate project activities from preconstruction through closeout while ensuring safety, quality, schedule and budget objectives are achieved. This role requires strong communication, organization and problem-solving skills and provides a clear path for advancement into a Project Manager position. This role will be working for our regional office in Las Vegas but will not be working at that location. The APM will need to be onsite at a project in Mammoth Lakes, California 3 days per week.
Responsibilities
- Understand and comply with all WPI policies, procedures and corporate safety programs.
- Actively participate in project-specific safety planning, hazard identification and jobsite safety initiatives.
- Assist with project setup, planning, and execution from contract award through closeout.
- Review contracts, scopes of work, drawings, specifications and project requirements to identify risks, opportunities and critical project obligations.
- Support the buyout process, including obtaining and evaluating vendor, supplier and subcontractor proposals.
- Coordinate procurement activities to ensure materials, equipment, engineering and subcontracted services are delivered on schedule.
- Prepare, track, and manage Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, shop drawings and other project documentation.
- Assist with schedule development, updates and coordination with project stakeholders.
- Participate in owner, architect, contractor, subcontractor and internal project meetings.
- Help manage project budgets, forecasts, change orders and cost tracking.
- Price and process change requests, ensuring impacts to schedule and budget are properly documented.
- Review production reports and support field operations in meeting productivity goals.
- Partner with Foremen, Superintendents and Project Managers to monitor labor performance and project progress.
- Assist with monthly billings, collections support and invoice review and approval.
- Maintain accurate project records, meeting minutes, correspondence, and reporting.
- Identify and communicate project risks, conflicts and potential issues before they impact project performance.
- Support quality control efforts and ensure work is completed in accordance with contract requirements.
- Coordinate project closeout activities, including punch lists, warranties, O&M manuals, as-built documentation and final deliverables.
- Foster strong relationships with clients, general contractors, architects, consultants, suppliers and internal teams.
Requirements
Basic Requirements
- Minimum of 2-3 years of commercial construction experience in a Project Engineer, Construction Coordinator, Assistant Project Manager, or similar role.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be onsite 3 days a week at project in Mammoth Lakes, CA
- Ability to analyze project information, identify risks, and proactively implement solutions that support successful project outcomes.
- Working knowledge of commercial construction means, methods, contracts, and project delivery processes.
- Experience managing project documentation, RFIs, submittals, change orders and procurement activities.
- Strong understanding of budgets, forecasting, cost tracking and financial reporting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, time management and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, field personnel and project stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Strong customer service mindset and commitment to client satisfaction.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Must possess strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
Preferred Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Construction Science, Business, Engineering, Accounting, or a related field.
- Experience with drywall, metal-stud framing and/or ACT in the commercial market.
