Job Description
A well-established municipal water utility is seeking an experienced Water Distribution Superintendent to lead the maintenance, reliability, and operational integrity of a large water distribution system. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable operation of critical infrastructure while managing preventative maintenance programs, capital improvement projects, emergency response, and field operations.

Reporting to the Water Distribution Manager, this position oversees multiple frontline supervisors and field personnel while partnering closely with engineering, operations, and executive leadership.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead maintenance and reliability operations for the water distribution system, providing leadership to approximately 14 employees through multiple frontline supervisors.
- Plan, prioritize, and oversee preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, pump station improvements, hydrant flushing, infrastructure inspections, and asset reliability initiatives.
- Manage annual capital improvement projects, including pump station upgrades, equipment replacements, and infrastructure modernization.
- Evaluate system performance, prioritize asset replacement, and support long-term maintenance and lifecycle planning.
- Lead field operations during emergency response events while maintaining a strong presence supporting supervisors and crews.
- Manage maintenance budgets, contractor relationships, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

- 8+ years of progressive experience in water distribution or municipal utility operations.
- Proven leadership experience managing supervisors and field maintenance teams.
- Colorado Distribution Operator Level III certification (or higher) preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Water Utility Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered.
