Senior Software Engineer (C#/.NET/React)

Company Overview

We are a healthcare technology company located in the Davis, CA area. We have proudly been in business for over 25 years and have built some of the most innovative technology in the healthcare industry. We are very passionate about improving healthcare and saving lives across the country!

Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable full-stack applications using C#, .NET, and React. You will build robust APIs, deliver responsive front-end experiences, and work with healthcare interoperability standards to integrate with electronic health record systems. The role requires strong software engineering fundamentals, a pragmatic approach to architecture and delivery, and the ability to collaborate across product, QA, and operations teams to deliver high-quality software in an Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable back-end services and APIs using C# and .NET (.NET Core/.NET 6+).
  • Develop responsive, accessible, and performant front-end interfaces using React.js with modern JavaScript/TypeScript patterns.
  • Architect and build RESTful and/or FHIR-based APIs; design secure and versioned API contracts and documentation.
  • Integrate with healthcare systems and standards (HL7, FHIR, EPIC) to enable reliable data exchange and workflows.
  • Author unit, integration, and end-to-end tests; practice test-driven development and maintain high code quality through automated testing.
  • Participate in code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and promote best practices for maintainability, security, and performance.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, QA, and DevOps to define requirements, estimate work, and deliver features on an iterative cadence.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability in production environments; support incident response and root-cause analysis.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and application deployment processes to ensure repeatable, low-risk releases.
  • Document designs, APIs, runbooks, and operational procedures; contribute to team knowledge sharing and technical roadmaps.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of professional experience developing backend systems with C# and .NET (ASP.NET Core preferred).
  • 3+ years building front-end applications using React.js and modern JavaScript (ES6+) and TypeScript.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs; familiarity with FHIR and healthcare API design is a strong plus.
  • Experience with HL7 message formats, EPIC integration methods (e.g., APIs, App Orchard, or web services) is highly desirable.
  • Solid SQL skills and experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL); experience with ORM tools such as Entity Framework.
  • Familiarity with front-end tooling and frameworks (Webpack, Babel, Jest, testing-library) and state management patterns (Redux, Context, or similar).
  • Practical knowledge of authentication/authorization (OAuth2, OpenID Connect), data security, and HIPAA/privacy-conscious development.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins) and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
  • Strong communication skills, experience working in Agile/Scrum teams, and a collaborative, mentoring mindset.
  • Ability to produce clear technical documentation, estimates, and participate in technical strategy and architecture decisions.
