Job Description

Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile early-career IT Engineer, with approximately 1 to 3 years of relevant experience, to join our team and support a comprehensive stack of enterprise products and services. The ideal candidate will exhibit a strong sense of detail, operate effectively both as part of a team and independently, and demonstrate a continual commitment to professional growth and process improvement. This role is vital to ensuring the seamless operation, security, and optimization of the various systems and infrastructure we manage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Installation & Configuration: Setting up and maintaining network hardware, software, and systems, including routers, servers, and cloud-based storage.

  • Performance Monitoring: Regularly monitoring the local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) to ensure optimal speed, availability, and efficiency.

  • Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and resolving network problems, such as connectivity issues and system malfunctions.

  • Security Management: Implementing and managing network security policies, controls, and user permissions to protect against threats.

  • Maintenance & Upgrades: Performing preventive maintenance, upgrading network infrastructure, and managing backup systems.

  • User Support: Assisting users with network-related problems and providing training on network policies and procedures.

  • Vendor Coordination: Collaborating with third-party service providers and vendors to resolve issues and ensure smooth network operations.

  • Experience with MDM platforms, including Jamf Pro, Workspace ONE, and Google Workspace

Essential Skills

  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to analyze information, identify problems, and devise effective solutions.

  • Technical Knowledge: A strong understanding of network concepts, operating systems, computer infrastructure, and data communications.

  • Communication Skills: The ability to clearly communicate technical information to colleagues, management, and users, as well as coordinate with external parties.

  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail is crucial, as even minor errors can significantly impact network performance and security.

  • Time & Project Management: The capacity to juggle multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines simultaneously, and prioritize accordingly.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 1–3 years of relevant hands-on IT experience in areas such as network engineering, systems administration, desktop support, help desk, or closely related technical support roles.

  • Hypervisor Management: Proficiently using virtualization software, such as VMWare and Proxmox, to create and manage virtual machines.

  • Windows Server Administration: Experience in managing Windows Server operating systems, which can serve as guest operating systems running on virtual machines

  • Firewall Configuration & Management: Installing, configuring, and maintaining various firewall platforms (e.g., Palo Alto Networks). This includes creating security policies, managing Access Control Lists (ACLs), and setting up NAT rules.

  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals, including the OSI Model, TCP/IP, IP addressing, subnetting, DNS, and DHCP.

Soft Skills

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues under pressure.

  • Communication: Effective communication skills to explain technical issues to both IT and non-IT staff.

  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to configurations and security to prevent network disruptions.

  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with other IT professionals and end-users.

  • Initiative: A proactive mindset to address problems and recommend improvements.

  • Awareness: The ability to "Read the room" when dealing with different types of customers and colleagues.

  • Flexibility: Strong flexibility and adaptability, with a willingness to shift priorities, adjust plans when issues arise, and contribute positively to the team through frequent change, rather than preferring a fixed routine or struggling with unexpected disruptions.

Work Location

  • This is an in-person position based in Mountain View, California. Reliable personal transportation is required to ensure punctual attendance. Remote or hybrid work arrangements are not available for this role.

  • Daily visits to client sites across the greater Peninsula and the surrounding Bay Area will be a core part of this role.

  • Occasional travel to more distant client locations is required as projects arise and business needs develop.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for purposes such as hardware installation, replacement, or relocation.

  • Capability to sit for extended periods while performing computer-based tasks, system monitoring, and administrative duties.

  • Adequate vision (with or without corrective lenses) to read technical documentation, monitor system outputs, and inspect hardware components.

  • Manual dexterity and steady hand–eye coordination for handling small cables, connectors, and components within servers, switches, and networking equipment.

  • Ability to bend, kneel, or reach during equipment setup and cabling tasks in confined or elevated spaces.

  • Sufficient auditory capability to effectively participate in meetings, hear alerts from monitoring systems, and communicate via phone or conferencing tools.

  • Mobility to move between different workstations, equipment rooms, and server areas as required.

  • Ability to work occasional extended hours, nights, or weekends to perform maintenance, upgrades, or respond to critical system events.
