Job Title: Custodian

Location: McCartney Residences at Lafayette College, Easton, PA
Compensation: $17.00-$19.00 per hour and a comprehensive benefits package
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
The McCartney Residences at Lafayette College opened in August 2020 and provides housing for 165 sophomore, junior, and senior-level Lafayette students. McCartney North offers single bedroom 3- and 4-person suites, and McCartney South provides double occupancy semi-suites. The McCartney Residences’ amenities include community kitchens, laundry rooms with coinless (free) operated machines, study lounges, and an outdoor amphitheater and lawn. Two retails spaces are located on the street level, including Lafayette’s College Store and a restaurant that offers outdoor patio seating during the warmer months.
COCM and Lafayette College utilize a shared governance management structure to provide a seamless living experience for the students residing in the McCartney Residences. Under this arrangement, Lafayette retains responsibility for residence life staffing and programming; marketing and leasing; room assignments; judicial; access control; security; and parking, while COCM is responsible for all other aspects of operations.
Summary
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the McCartney Residences. Working as part of a team, this position performs routine cleaning and maintenance of the building interior and exterior, common areas, restrooms, and surrounding grounds to ensure the property is well-maintained and presents a positive appearance. The Custodian is expected to provide excellent customer service by interacting professionally and courteously with residents, visitors, vendors, and campus partners while supporting a student-focused residential community. This position may require occasional evening and weekend work to meet operational needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Workstosupport the wholeOperationsTeam in their duties and responsibilities; creating a student first environment excelling in customer service, communication, and quality of service.
- Cleancommon areaswhichincludehalls, stairways, publicrestroom, offices, lounges, elevators, laundry rooms, corridors, kitchens, etc.
- Clean and sanitize publicrestroom, including replenishing bathroom supplies.
- Sweep, scrub, and mop floorsand stairwellsas well as vacuuming rugs and carpeting.
- Strip, clean, buff,and apply floor sealer and floor finish tohard surfacefloors, as well as extract carpeting and upholstered furniture.
- Clean, dust,and wipe furniture.
- Collect and dispose of trash. Pick up debris and recyclables inside and outside the building.
- Wash accessible interior and exterior windows, door panels, and sills.
- Use andmaintainassigned equipment: floor scrubber, dry carpet extractor, pressure washer, vacuums, brooms, mops,and squeegees.
- Follow operating and safety policies and procedures, andcomply withfederal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
- Move furniture, equipment, supplies,and tools.
- Launder cleaning rags and dust mops.
- Respond to emergencies when necessary.
- Prepare the building and student units for between occupancy periods. This includes extensive deep cleaning of bedrooms and bathrooms as well ascommon areaspaces such as kitchens,loungeshallways, etc.
- Participation in a 24-hour emergency on-call rotation to respond tofacilitiesemergencies at the community.
- Work overtime (when approved) and understand that there will be no leave approved during the turn periods of this property outside of emergency and unforeseen situations.
- Attend all staff meetings and training programs andparticipatein on-going training with the McCartney Residences staff on an as neededbasis.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

- High school diploma or GED
- At least 1 year of experience working within a janitorial/custodial position
- Demonstrateproficiencyin verbal communication.
- Possess strong customer service skills.
- Must have troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Knowledge of accepted janitorial/custodial practices
- Experience using and maintaining common janitorial/custodial equipment (floor scrubber, extractors, upholstery machines, pressure washer, vacuum, mops, chemical dispensers)
- Must be a team player. We all must work together as we strive to provide the best service possible for our customers.
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds and navigate up/downstairs.
- Must be able to participate in an on-call rotation schedule and respond to emergency calls within 30 minutes of the campus.
40-hours per week in shifts Monday through Friday between 7:00am-5:00pm.
