Restroom Maintenance Technician - Olympic National Forest WA
Job Description
Job Description
Ecobrite Services is seeking dedicated Restroom Maintenance Technicians to clean, stock, and maintain restrooms and vault toilets across the beautiful Olympic National Forest under contract with the USDA Forest Service. This is a rewarding, hands-on field position ideal for retired couples or forest enthusiasts who enjoy independent outdoor work in a stunningnatural environment.
The role involves significant driving on forest roads, including areas with one-way-in/one-way-out access. Routes cover dispersed sites (campgrounds, trailheads, picnic areas) with varying service frequencies (3x, 2x, or 1x per week). Due to the vast area, full coverage across frequencies typically spans multiple days. Accountability is key: mandatory sign-in sheets at every site, GPS tracking via provided handheld device, and clear communication of supply needs.
- Candidates must be 18 years of age or older and ABLE TO CLEAR A BACKGROUND CHECK.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive assigned routes safely using the company van (after arriving at park entrance in personal vehicle) to service facilities on schedule.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms/vault toilets to high professional standards.
- Stock supplies (toilet paper, soap, paper towels, trash liners) and manage waste removal.
- Monitor inventory and promptly notify the field manager of supplies needing refill or ordering.
- Accurately complete mandatory sign-in sheets at every site visited.
- Use the provided handheld GPS system for navigation, site location, and movement tracking; maintain compliance and submit route documentation.
- Inspect facilities for damage, vandalism, or issues and report promptly.
- Follow all safety, environmental, and operational protocols; represent Ecobrite Services and the USDA Forest Service professionally.
Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) — required to operate the company van.
- Reliable personal vehicle for travel to the park entrance (fuel reimbursed).
- Smartphone required for coordination and reporting.
- Physically capable of cleaning tasks, lifting/carrying supplies (~50 lbs), bending, and walking short distances.
- Self-motivated, reliable, and detail-oriented; comfortable working independently in remote areas.
- Must pass a background check (required for federal contract work).
- Available for field schedule including early starts, 5–6 days/week, and occasional weekends/holidays during peak season.
- Respect for the natural environment and commitment to consistent, high-quality service.
What We Offer:
- $20 per hour structured for 60 hours/week — perfect for two individuals (e.g., retired couple) to split and each earn ~30 hours/week.
- Full fuel coverage for all work-related driving.
- Company van stocked with supplies for daily routes.
- Handheld GPS system (Garmin-style) provided for navigation and tracking.
- Free camping at National Forest campsites throughout the park (ideal if you have a truck/trailer and prefer your own setup).
- Immersive work in the spectacular old-growth forests and scenery of Olympic National Forest.
- Clear protocols, training, and supportive systems for success and safety.
- Meaningful work that directly improves visitor experience and helps protect public lands.
Schedule & Work Environment:
Routes are grouped by area (Hoodsport, Quilcene, Forks, Quinault, etc.) for efficiency. Expect full field days mixing driving and hands-on work. The Olympic Peninsula features variable weather (including rain), so preparedness for outdoor conditions is important. Road access ranges from paved to gravel forest roads, with some remote/one-way sections requiring planning. Flexible camping options on USFS sites are available for those wanting to base closer to their routes.
